We need YOU – to basically understand that hypno We need YOU – to basically understand that hypnobirthing really is logical, simple and it works.
We all have pre pregnancy thoughts about what labour and birth entails – these are often driven by tv dramas such as ‘one born every minute’ or ‘call the midwife’. Images of frightened parents, emergencies and health professionals saving the day filter into our minds. Then, when we become pregnant, these seemingly harmless pictures and ideas manifest and become anxieties and fears that we worry about BUT it doesn’t have to be that way.
For many of us, the word HYPNOBIRTHING conjures up a stereotypical picture of being something STRANGE – practised only by the chosen few – I have been a midwife for many years but need to confess to once thinking like this – until I did my hypnobirthing training 2 years ago – I now know, however, this is so not the case!

The UB Hypnobirthing programme will provide you with the tools to support your body to approach birth positively.

Birth is amazing, it is magical, and it is hard...but it needn’t be seen as insurmountable or daunting. It works by understanding that when our minds are focused and peaceful, our bodies work more efficiently. It really is as effortless as that.

The key to your positive birth is INFORMATION – how to get it, how to understand it and how to use it – and that is what we teach you within an interactive setting.
One thing to note is in years to come you probably won’t remember what buggy you had but you will definitely remember what birth experience you had – it will shape you, your birth partner and your baby’s future…

Did you know a baby’s brain doubles in weight du Did you know a baby’s brain doubles in weight during the first year of life. This is not due to the growth of brain cells, but due to the linking of connections between those cells.
Stimulation is required for these connections to be made.

Without stimulation and communication there would be limited progress...

Transitional stage of labour Almost there – oh m Transitional stage of labour
Almost there – oh my goodness – this is it!!
Labour consists of 4 stages...
Latent phase; when the cervix ripens, effacement takes place and you get to around 4cm dilated.
First stage; when the cervix dilates from 4cm – 10cm, with regular surges.  The surges will become stronger, longer, and more frequent – usually about every 5 minutes, lasting 40-60 seconds
Second stage; the birth of your baby
Third stage; the separation and delivery of your placenta and control of any uterine bleeding.

✨The Transitional Stage of Labour occurs at the end of the first stage – before the second stage. It is a period of change, of ‘swapping over’ (as your cervix becomes fully dilated 10cm) of transitioning from the first stage of labouring to the second stage of birthing…. from up breathing and visualisations to down breathing…. Exciting stuff but full on!

It is often described as the most dramatic/uncomfortable part of labour, as you experience the effects of a massive surge in adrenalin. As your adrenalin levels overtake your oxytocin levels – you will feel hugely different, overcome – suddenly very aware!

With adrenalin in control the muscles of your uterus are forced to change the way they work. Remember the muscles of the uterus work in pairs; with the long muscles contracting, during the first stage of labour and the round muscles relaxing – causing the cervix to draw up and dilate to 10cm. Now with the onset of the second stage, these roles reverse; the round muscles squeeze baby down and out through the birth canal for birthing, whilst the long muscles relax, out of the way.

With such vast hormonal changes during this period, you will probably experience physical symptoms such as panic, shaking, nausea and vomiting. You will feel overwhelmed and ‘out of control’. Women often state that they cannot cope, want pain relief, and that they have had enough and are going home.
Birth partners note:  Often all the supportive techniques that you have used effectively up to now will be a source of agitation during transition.

Read more about how to cope in new blog post from Sally ⬆️

Please share below any funny comments you said during transition?
Lots of my yoga mamas are nearing their due date i Lots of my yoga mamas are nearing their due date in next few weeks. So this a post for them and to all of you who are nearly cooked.

It can be such an exciting time, but also filled with anxiety. Trying to remain calm and trusting your body.... welcoming the wait....is quite a skill! Have a read of a blog post from last year about due dates, I’ve linked it in the bio ⬆️

“What is the history behind how due dates are calculated, it’s called the Naegele’s rule and as much as I would like to tell it was based a huge piece of research, sadly I can’t. It was based on 100.....yes 100 women in the Netherlands in 1744!! Their ‘due date’ versus ‘birthday’ were noted and then the ‘standard’ 28 day menstrual cycle with ovulation on day 14 were added (because of course us women are all the same.... NOT) and so the rule was born and has been in place ever since..... yes in place for 276 years!!! And to add to the confusion about 100 years ago we decided that adding 7 days onto the last day of the woman’s period was wrong and we should add 7 days onto the 1st day of the woman’s last period, not because there had been additional research, just because!!!
We did introduce ultrasound scans in the 1950s and from that came the dating scan which although more accurate still only correctly predicted in 4% of pregnancies, so only 4 out of every 100 women will actually be birthing their baby on that wonderful ‘due date’.

So what does that mean for you, here and now, today? All your due date will tell you is that 4 of every 100 women with the same due as you will birth their baby on that day and the other 96 won’t and who knows which group you’ll be in?”

A Note to my Postpartum Self from my Higher Self 💫

Slow down, this is a chapter in being vs doing. Be patient and compassionate with yourself, you too are an infant in your motherhood stage. Take one day at a time, and in that softening you’ll find strength to be vulnerable enough to ask for help and honor your healing.
Do your best to not qualify or compare your experience with another. Discover your intuition and don’t get too rigid with advice and opinions that don’t feel right in your heart.

Experiment and seek support but remain unattached to rigid routines, things will change as consistently as the tides. Celebrate the little wins and stay curious through the hurdles. Remember… you will have to learn to adapt, adapt and then adapt again.

Motherhood is asking you to lean into a love like no other, while embracing the bittersweet and inevitable reality of letting go. It is opening your eyes to absolute happiness which is not found in how you look or what you accomplish. It is prompting you to experiment and research until you find your own way. It is asking you to favor presence in the midst of chaos & confusion, and to move beyond the old belief systems that measure your worth and happiness with how much you accomplish or acquire.

Now those who have not been there may never understand, the truth is, until you were there yourself you didn’t either.
So when you feel overwhelmed, defeated or in doubt remember….
Beyond the transformation and integration, and between the exhaustion and the elation is your higher Self waiting to guide you from that space of stillness and silence. Here you will be reminded that there is no going back only forward, that this little person has come to serve as your greatest teacher, and that your state of consciousness will dictate this entire journey.

This surreal time, which seems eternal but slips right by, is the best opportunity you have been given to awaken and learn how to love yourself more.

This product is my go to for any new mama. Lansino This product is my go to for any new mama. Lansinoh Soothies Gel Breast pads.

One of my lovely friends gave me some when I was pregnant with my first baby, she said “pop these in the fridge as they will come in handy”. So I did, and then didn’t think much of it.

Along came my babe...and breastfeeding. By day 4 when my nipples were sore and milk coming in my friend said have you tried the gel pads? Of course I’d forgotten with the newborn haze, but my oh my the relief when I popped them on.

You can reuse them for up to 72hours. You can even pop them in fridge or freezer for extra cooling comfort.
I now buy all my pregnant pals a pack along with their baby shower gift.

You think you may not need them, but believe me they are like absolute gold for the old nip-nops! A true must have!

They are available from amazon, amongst other places. This is not an ad I just really rate them!

Save this post incase you need it, or share with someone who could do with some nipple relief!
