The ultimate Antenatal Course

This exciting new midwife led package is specifically designed to give you and your birth partner realistic, evidence based, contemporary information about pregnancy and to prepare you both for he birth of you new baby.

The Ultimate Antenatal Course is held over two Saturdays, 10am – 1pm, refreshments provided.

Beyond the Bump workshop is also included in package, held Friday afternoons 1:30pm – 3:30pm

Ultimate antenatal – Session 1
The session is interactive and fun! Small groups, with visual aids, first-hand knowledge and examples from our expert. You will learn about the physical changes your body goes through, alongside the less obvious emotional changes which occur.
Session 1, as name implies, covers the 3rd trimester of pregnancy and preparing for birth: the 3 stages of labour, the physiology of normal spontaneous labour and the mechanism of a ‘normal’ labour, and the different methods of pain relief available. We cover signs and symptoms of labour and when you need to call the hospital and what you will need for your birth.

Birth unlimited – Session 2
This follows on from session 1 and covers due dates and your choices –
including the ‘what ifs’ – which usually generates much discussion. We look at induction of labour, with the various different methods being used, malposition’s, instrumental births and also caesarean sections. The caesarean section rate has risen significantly over the years, currently around 30 –40%. Birth unlimited will help you to prepare for this possibility. We discuss the reasons for this and help you understand the procedure so that you will be more prepared to either accept or more positively to question …. why you would need to have one!
This session involves birth partners fully – as they play such an important part in your birthing journey.

We are very passionate about Hypnobirthing and therefore are excited to provide you with an introduction to hypnobirthing. Including a relaxation script and breathing exercises, as well as provide you with various information sources for you to research.

Should you wish to explore Hypnobirthing further, Midwife Sally teaches KG Hypnobirthing as a virtual course. Discount offered if purchased The Ultimate Antenatal Package. Please have a look at our Hypnobirthing page for more information.

frequently asked questions

The course is constantly evolving to keep up to date with the latest evidence and research and is taught by an experienced midwife.

Our antenatal program not only equips you with information but uniquely gives you the knowledge to understand your options and the implications of the choices you make.  As well as teaching you the techniques you need for a positive birth, it gives you the information to navigate the system in which you find yourself to achieve the best outcome for you and your baby.

  • Physiology of birth.
  • Pain Management
  • Types of births
  • Very effective work to release fear and build confidence
  • How birth partners can be your powerful protector and support
  • How your body is designed to give birth with efficiency and comfort.
  • Knowledge and information about pregnancy and birth that you are unlikely to be told anywhere else
  • How ‘the system’ that you find yourself in works, and how to work with it to achieve the best result for you.

A close friend or family member who is going to be in the birth room to support you when you give birth can come to the course as well as your partner.  It is important that they understand what you are doing and how best to support you.  There is no additional charge for this.  This does not apply to birth professionals (including doulas).

A UBA Hypnobirthing teacher is always there for you.  Please call or email if you feel stressed, are put under pressure, or we can help in any way. We run a weekly ‘Catcha Cuppa & Chat’ with a midwife service – for all our members to attend.

Given the choice, I would advise doing the course in the second trimester of your pregnancy so you can enjoy the benefits during your pregnancy as well as at the birth of your baby.  It is not so much a matter of learning facts so they are fresh in your mind, but more a matter of absorbing the information so that it becomes second nature.  If you do the course earlier, you have more time for the benefits during your pregnancy as well as at the birth of your baby.

If you are expecting your first baby, you may have the phrase on your lips, ‘What if……’.  The fears you have are often derived from the dramatic emergencies you have seen on television or the movies.  UB Academy helps to explain the ‘What ifs’ so you can safely leave them to your midwife.  She is highly qualified in ‘what ifs’, but you need the knowledge to understand this.

From women who are expecting their second or subsequent baby, I often hear the words, ‘If only…’.  ‘If only I had known, I would have made a different decision.’  ‘If only someone had told me.’  Our course saves you from saying ‘If only…’ after the birth, and helps you let go of a previous bad experience so that the birth of your second baby can be a wonderful and empowering experience.  You may find this hard to believe, but there are many mothers who can vouch for this.
